
Healthy Child Care Austin
Scope of Work
Raising Austin is committed to the development of a consultation, technical assistance and training effort for early care and education staff and families to include child development, the understanding and skills to nurture the social and emotional development of children, health and safety and linking children, families and staff with community health resources. The Healthy Child Care Austin Project supports the model of using Child Care Health Consultants (CCHC), a specifically trained professional, to provide consultation, and on-site training, technical assistance and connect caregivers and families with community resources.
This project embraces the whole child and his/her family in all areas of development. Raising Austin will contract a National Child Care Health Consultant, to provide consultation, technical assistance and training for a twelve (12) month period. The scope of work will include seven major activities:
- Provide consultation to two childcare centers on United Way Capital Area Success by Six Goals, Healthy, Happy and Smart Goals;
- Provide support and guidance to CCHC trained in 2004 and 2006; while capturing lessons learned and documenting the number of contact hours from their consultation and training;
- Identify potential links/resources in the community that support the Healthy, Happy, and Smart Goals;
- Link with Mentorship Project and provide trainings on social/emotional health and well-being;
- Advocate and raise awareness on the benefits of Child Care Health Consultants in local communities;

Work with interested partners to develop a comprehensive proposal to include Child Care Health Consultants in keeping young children Healthy, Happy and Smart, and
- Collect data and capture lessons learned from this effort.
The Healthy Child Care Austin Project through consultation, technical assistance and training will focus on skill and knowledge development, prevention and intervention and training for child care staff, teachers and parents. Strategies to connect families and staff with community resources, information and referrals will be identified to support the Happy, Healthy and Smart goals. The child care staff will receive consultation, on-site technical assistance and have un-limited communication with the CCHC via e-mail and/or telephone. The director will receive guidance on the development of model policies, procedures and maintenance of health records to support Happy, Healthy and Smart Goals. In addition, a short and long term plan will be jointly developed with the center’s director and the CCHC that will focus on health and safety and appropriate practices.
